Three twin laser beams are seen emanating from facilities at the Starfire Optical Range (SOR) on Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. The Phillips Laboratory SOR research team is the leader in the development of laser beacon adaptive optics for both military and scientific applications. Laser and deformable optics are used here to eliminate or minimize optical distortions caused by the Earth's atmosphere.
