interrupted light pillar pair
Time exposure showing a pair of interrupted light pillars caused by bright, uncovered work lights a few thousand feet behind the trees in the foreground. Interrupted pillars occur when the light from a ground-based source is reflected off separate ice-crystal layers one on top of the other.

Photo taken in 2005 at the University of Fairbanks, Alaska.
